“Always Here” to replace “Never Again”

While Holocaust museums are vital, according to Israeli scholar Yossi Klein Halevi, they have made a mistake.

They let the world believe Israel was born from tragedy. A refuge granted out of guilt.

Halevi warns against this link. Tying Israel's existence to the Holocaust undermines our actual claim. It reduces three thousand years of history to one act of mercy.

Jews did not arrive in 1948 because the world felt sorry for us. We returned to the land we never stopped belonging to. The Holocaust did not create that belonging. It revealed what happens when the world denies it.

This was never about land capture. It is about coming home to the one place on earth where we are fully, unconditionally accepted as who we are.

Here is the strategy:

Lead with the land, not the loss. Three thousand years of presence comes first. The Holocaust comes later in the story, not first.

Retire the founding myth language. Israel was not "created" in 1948. It was restored.

Anchor the claim in evidence, not emotion. Archaeology. Ancient Hebrew inscriptions. The Cairo Geniza. Facts that don't depend on anyone's sympathy.

Change the slogan. "Never again" looks backward. "Always here" looks forward.

We do not need the world's pity to justify our home. We need the world to know our history.
